Depuy Asr Xl Acetabular System Has Been the Subject of a Nationwide Recall

Depuy Asr Xl Acetabular System is a type of metal-on-metal hip implant made by DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. This hip implant has been the subject of a nationwide recall after being found to be defective and potentially deadly. After an investigation was conducted on the device, it has been indicated that the device may cause metal toxicity that damages the implant recipient’s joints or organs such as the liver, kidney, brain, and heart. This is due to exposure to dangerously high levels of cobalt and chromium. The FDA has warned that the metal ions that wear off of DePuy metal implants can make their way into the patient’s bloodstream and damage bone or tissue surrounding the artificial hip.

Rodham and Gray v. DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc.

The class-action lawsuit is Rodham and Gray v. DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. (Case No. BER-L-1691-12; Bergen County Superior Court). Davis, Saperstein, & Saloman’s defective medical device attorneys have asked the court to order DePuy to provide compensation for patients who received hip implants. This compensation should go toward annual monitoring of their health, future surgery, and for damages for pain, suffering, injuries, and inconvenience.

You may be in need of medical monitoring if you have received a DePuy metal-on-metal artificial hip plant. You may also be eligible for compensation. Contact your doctor immediately to determine whether you have had a metal-on-metal hip replacement. If you have, you should obtain a copy of the operative report from the original implant procedure. This will provide information regarding when you received the implant and the device’s batch numbers and lot. You should also reach out to an experienced attorney who has experienced handling medical product liability cases. You may be able to be a part of the class certified in Rodhan and Gray v. DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. This class-action lawsuit was filed in February of 2012. Additional plaintiffs may join the class and benefit from the action granted by the court.
